Speaking to local journalists over the weekend in Maryland County, Mr. Segbe said the awards presented to him and the Maryland County office by Chairman Kpakio and Mr. Byren serve not only as a source of encouragement and motivation but also reflect Chairman Kpakio’s commitment to strengthening land governance and administration.
The recognition he said highlights the importance of promoting sustainable land management and secure land tenure as pillars of accountability, integrity, and diligence.
Mr. Segbe further commended Mr. Byren for his exceptional flexibility during the implementation of the ILAMP and SLSL projects, adding that the LLA Maryland Office will greatly miss his support and services. He further added that the abrupt departure of the SLSL project will affect greatly the LLA operation in the counties. Thus, used the occasion to call on journalists raise the importance of land during their reportage as land remains a key factor to Liberia peace and security.
Speaking on the awards received, he praised the Awards Committee for organizing what he described as a well-attended and successful event, noting that it marked a significant milestone since the establishment of the LLA in 2016. He said the recognition of County Land Administrators reflected a defining moment of unity beyond boundaries and institutional progress.
Mr. Segbe dedicated the awards to the people of Maryland County and all stakeholders, including the Office of the Superintendent, the Circuit and Magisterial Courts, City Mayors, the Liberia National Police, District and Township Commissioners, traditional and religious leaders, CSOs/CBOs, human rights and media institutions, and residents of customary communities.
He acknowledged their invaluable collaboration and unwavering support, which he said continue to contribute significantly to the operation of LLA office in the county. He used the engagement with journalists to call on LLA staff in the County to continue to work with efficiency, honesty, commitment and integrity.
In closing, Mr. Segbe thanked journalists in the county for their continuous support. And, called on all to
avoid illegal land transactions and fraudulent practices. Journalists who attended the press conference
commended the LLA Chairman for his foresightedness in recognizing outstanding staff, and hope that this is
emulated by other line ministries and agencies.
The award ceremony was organized by the LLA and supported by the SLSL project management.
The event became the first since the establishment of the LLA in 2016, and the passage of the Land Rights Act in 2018. The ceremony brought together more than 200 LLA staff and volunteers.
According to the Awards Committee, recipients were selected based on their exceptional performance in advancing land reform through the effective implementation of the Land Rights Act (LRA), the LLA Act, the Act Against Criminal Conveyance of Land (AACCL), and other land-related policies, guidelines, regulations, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
