LLA Technical Team Engages Local Authorities, Traditional Leaders, and Communities on the Solar IPP Project in Nimba County.

Nimba County, Sanniquellie City, Liberia | August 12, 2026 The Liberia Land Authority (LLA), through its technical team, has conducted two separate stakeholder engagement meetings with local communities and authorities in Nimba County as part of ongoing activities for the Liberia Solar Independent Power Producer (IPP) Project.

The engagements, held at the LLA office and the Office of the County Superintendent, focused on the proposed development of a 100MW large-scale Solar PV Plant on approximately 150 hectares of land along the Sanniquellie-Yekepa Road in Nimba County.

The LLA Solar IPP Project Focal Person and Assistant Director for Land Use and Management, Mr. Juan Frederick Martin, explained that the initiative forms part of Liberia’s broader strategy to harness its abundant natural resources, particularly solar energy, to provide affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity across the country.

He further noted that strengthening Liberia’s energy sector is essential to achieving the country’s commitments under COP26 and COP27. The initiative also aligns with Executive Order No. 137, issued by H.E President Joseph N. Boakai, which emphasizes energy sovereignty as a foundation for Liberia’s political, economic, and social security, while highlighting the importance of generating and controlling the country’s energy resources domestically.
